HEATHER BAKER
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY
MEET THE THERAPIST
Since graduating from Grant MacEwan University's Massage Therapy program back in 2003, I have dedicated my career to helping clients free themselves from the physical and mental distress caused by pain and disfunction.

I was introduced to the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release approach back in 2004 when I took my first course and began applying a few of the techniques to my massage therapy practice. After over 5 years, I realized this type of work truly has some incredible results and in 2010 I began taking more courses and have completed (and continue to attend) courses relating to specific techniques and movement therapy. I am proud to offer this gentle, effective approach to my clients and eager to introduce more people to the benefits of Barnes Myofascial Release.

John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach
Fascia is the collagenous tissue which spreads throughout the body, connecting and surrounding all parts of the body in a fluid filled three dimensional web. Throughout life, trauma, posture and/or inflammation can create restrictions in this tissue which will , in turn, put pressure on nerves, muscles, bones, blood vessels and/or organs. The problem is, standard medical tests do not show these restrictions in the system and there is a good chance that fascial restrictions may be misdiagnosed!

John Barnes MFR involves applying a gentle sustained pressure to these restrictions and with time, these restrictions soften(due to the piezoelectric phenomenon). As restrictions soften, the pressure is taken off pain sensitive structures and fluid is able to move back into the tissue area thus allowing both the return of movement(range of motion) as well as the nutrients that travel through this fluid to all cells in the body.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Your First Visit
The initial meeting is a time for me to get to know you and to find out what lead you to Myofascial Release as a treatment in your healing journey. There will be a health history form to fill out, a standing assessment performed and some discussion in regards to the treatment type and how, together, we plan to help you reach your goals. There will be time for an initial treatment in the first session as it will act as further understanding of what is going on in your body.
Your Follow Up Visits
Following visits will likely vary with each time we meet as your experience of the previous treatment will dictate where we go next. Myofascial release treatments are oil free, hands on treatments where the goal is to locate and release the CAUSE of the problem not simply treating the symptoms repeatedly. This treatment involves both client and therapist as I want you to take your "at home" treatment into your own hands. The goal is we work together to get you back to where you want to be in a pain free life!
